Janet is also a theatre director, who values innovation, collaboration, and contemporary performance dynamics as means to keep theatre vitally distinct from film. She is committed to developing a live performance event as a civic engagement experience, which delights, challenges, and activates our empathy.

(Please see the DIRECTING portion of this website for her past and upcoming directing accomplishments as Assistant Professor.)

As a theatre-maker Janet is a collaborative creative leader/director who values place, conversation, and contributions of community partners. Janet is deeply committed to the concerns and questions of her hometown of Flint, MI. Her creative activity with site-based original productions such as the Glenwood: Restoration of Spirit and Nourish: The Flint Farmers’ Market Performance Project forms the basis of her Scholarship of Engagement research trajectory as a Boyer Fellow in Public Scholarship.

(Please see the SITE-SPECIFIC portion of this website for her past and upcoming accomplishments as Assistant Professor)

As a an engaged citizen-educator, Janet believes that when we dare to unplug from the "2-D" digital realm, step out of the isolation of our automobiles, and engage with others in "3-D" place and time…we can create experiences that ignite personal wellness, civic pride, and social change.
