“You know what I’d really love? A child.” -- Nick, Expecting Isabel
A couple's attempt to conceive and then adopt a child creates a swirling storm of comically absurd yet heart-breaking episodes. This whirl of obstacles drives the couple further and further apart. Dynamics of psychological and emotional distance inspired the spatial relationships and composition. Kinetic scenic elements of sliding screens, rocking chair, plus wheeled furniture/baby carriages/children's toys supported the whirlwind action of the episodic plot. The silhouette of the stork remained constant, just as their hope for a child stood tall throughout the chaos.
